Who are you?

I am Day Melik. A 24-year-old creative from Charlotte, North Carolina who dabbles in Resale – specifically Vintage and Designer consignment. I also create my own custom pieces that I sell every once in a while.

What was the first outfit you remember wearing that made you feel fly?

Haha! In the 10th grade I had just came back to school after recovering from foot surgery. The Blue and Green varsity Royal Griffey’s had just come out and I wore them with a pair of light wash jeans, neon green t-shirt, and striped H&M cardigan. Thought I was super fly.

Aside from fashion references, what influences your style?

My environment [influences my style] as well as my mood. For example, I always play with layered looks in the wintertime and tend to have a more tailored aesthetic just because the upkeep is easy as well as comfortable. If, not I’m in a cool sweater or oversized pair of pants.

What three elements define your look?

Since my style tends to vary and is constantly changing, I would say 3 ways to distinctly define my looks is through my accessories, my shoes,  and the different textures on my clothes and shoes. I love a good accessory whether it’s a belt ring or choker. I’m a shoe fanatic and I love a good bright colorway. it’s simple as that. I love it when a fabric has been manipulated to give a different look or feel.

How has your upbringing influenced your style?

Started from the bottom now I’m here. Lmao in every figure of speech. I was born with Spina Bifida and spent most of my childhood in the hospital, so I’ve always expressed myself through fashion and my personal style. Because I know when I look good and damn it I do hunnyyy.

What brands or designers are you into right now?

Sacai, Prada, Alyx, Nike, Martine Ali, Dior, and Y project.

What is a must-have garment/accessory for every closet?

A good bag whether it’s a purse, a crossbody, a fanny. Get yourself a BAG.

If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Something that can be extended and shorten by existing elements. One outfit is not an option. I need options.

Do you think fast fashion has had a positive or negative effect on people cultivating a personal sense of style?

I think it depends on a persons personal budget for clothing. I think fast fashion can be very forceful in pushing a specific style which can have a negative effect on personal style. But in the end, it doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy in your clothing. Since I do respect designers’ work and don’t necessarily support fast fashion because of the unnecessary waste I can say that not indulging in fast fashion has helped cultivate my personal style.
